Walking the Line: Cockfield Fell and the Haggerleases branch line
10.00 am -1.00 pm
This walk starts in the ancient green village of Cockfield and takes us onto the Fell, which is a scheduled ancient monument. We cover more than 2000 years of history from the Iron Age up to the present day. Using pictures to help us imagine life on the Fell in days gone by, we learn about coal mining, the development of the railways and other industries such as coke smelting and brick making. This is the village where Jeremiah Dixon grew up and lived and we will learn a little about his family too.
Booking: Free event. 5 places only so book early by contacting Trish Pemberton, on 01388 833229 or
trish.pemberton@btconnect.com.
Joining instructions provided on booking.
Location: Opposite St Mary’s Church, Cockfield. It is possible to park along the main road of the village.
