FoS&DR Chair Trish Pemberton with Dehenna Davison MP & Peter Gibson MP

Local MPs Get Behind the S&DR

Newly elected local MPs, representing constituencies along the route of the Stockton & Darlington Railway, met with the Friends chair Trish Pemberton today at Portcullis House in London on Wednesday to discuss the preparations for the bicentenary celebrations.

Bishop Auckland MP Dehenna Davison and Darlington MP Peter Gibson were present. Matt Vickers, newly elected MP for Stockton South was keen to attend but unable to do so due to prior commitments. Sedgefield MP Paul Howell also would have liked to attend but was unavailable due to prior commitments in his constituency.

Much progress was made on promoting collective working across the constituencies and borders along the line. The new MP’s are already actively promoting the anniversary of the S&DR with central government and are keen to work with us in the lead up to 2025. We’re pleased to report that Ms. Davison has made contact with the Department of Transport on our behalf to make arrangements for a meeting with representatives of the Friends to discuss matters relevant to the S&DR.
