Lord Foster – A Message from the Chair

Lord Derek Foster, a Tribute from the Chair

Lord Derek Foster

“As many of you may already have seen in the press, our distinguished patron and President, Lord Derek Foster has passed away at the age of 81, as a result of cancer.

I am deeply saddened as during my first years living in County Durham he was my MP and I found him to be a truly engaged representative who worked continuously for the good of his constituents. When he was asked to become the patron and President of the Friends, he did so with warm-hearted sincerity and he gave us as much time as he was able to, in a life that continued to be one of service and concern for the people living in our area, including those in Shildon.

As it says in the Northern Echo, it is partly due to his efforts that Locomotion is situated where it is and where it belongs, in Shildon. I know he will be fondly remembered in 2025 when we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway.”
