Thomas Richardson was a Quaker who dedicated his life to supporting the education of the working classes across the north, or children of Quaker couples who had married outside the faith. He was a committee member of the Stockton & Darlington Railway Company, co-founder and funder of Robert Stephenson and Co, a founding member of the Owners of the Middlesbrough Estate and was a cousin to Edward Pease.
